Frequently
Asked Questions

The answers to the questions clients ask most often — before they even need to ask them.

General Questions

Where is Richie based and how far will he travel?

Richie is based in London. Travel within approximately 1.5 hours of London is included as standard in all bookings. Events further afield across the UK are available and quoted individually. Richie is also available for international and destination bookings — including European weddings and events abroad. Just enquire with your location and he'll confirm availability and travel costs.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as possible — especially for Saturday bookings between May and September, which are the most in-demand dates. Many clients book 12 to 18 months in advance for peak-season weddings. That said, Richie occasionally has last-minute availability, so it's always worth enquiring even if your date is soon.

Does Richie hold Public Liability Insurance?

Yes. Richie holds full Public Liability Insurance (PLI). Documentation is available on request and can be provided directly to your venue if required. Most professional venues will ask for this as standard.

Is Richie's equipment PAT tested?

Yes. All equipment is PAT tested. Again, certificates are available on request if your venue requires them.

How does pricing work?

No pricing is shown on this website. Every booking is quoted individually based on your date, location, package, and any add-ons. Enquire with your details and Richie will come back to you with a tailored quote. There's no obligation to book after receiving a quote.

What happens if Richie is unavailable on my date?

Richie responds to every enquiry personally. If he's unavailable on your date, he'll let you know promptly so you can explore other options in good time.

Solo Saxophone

How long does Richie play for as a solo saxophonist?

The standard solo saxophone package is 2 x 45-minute sets performed over a 2-hour period, with background music played between sets. Additional time can be added if needed — just discuss this when enquiring.

Does Richie bring his own PA system?

Yes. PA and lighting are included as standard in all solo saxophone bookings. Richie is completely self-contained — you don't need to arrange any additional equipment.

What music does Richie play?

Richie is a genuinely versatile saxophonist with a wide repertoire spanning jazz, R&B, soul, Motown, funk, gospel, disco, pop, reggae, Latin, Bollywood, and house music. He can tailor the set to the feel of your event — elegant and understated for ceremonies and dining, more upbeat and energetic for drinks receptions and parties. A full repertoire list is available on request.

Can Richie learn a specific song for my event?

Yes. Richie is happy to learn a special request for a small additional fee. If there's a particular song that's important to you — for your first dance, ceremony entrance, or any other moment — enquire with the song in mind and he'll let you know if it's achievable.

Can Richie play at both the ceremony and the reception?

Yes. Richie can cover multiple parts of your day — ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, and evening. Each part is tailored to the mood of that moment. Discuss your full day requirements when enquiring and he'll put together the right package.

Can Richie play alongside a DJ I've already booked?

Absolutely. This is one of the most popular options. Richie performs live saxophone alongside your existing DJ — adding a live music dimension that transforms the dancefloor. He'll liaise with your DJ directly to make sure the set flows seamlessly. See the Sax with Your DJ page for more details.

DJ Sax

How does DJ Sax work exactly?

Richie acts as both DJ and live saxophonist throughout the evening. He manages the entire DJ set himself on Pioneer equipment, and plays live saxophone throughout — weaving in and out of the music at the right moments. There's no second performer. No handoffs. One artist in complete control of the room all night.

How long does the DJ Sax package last?

The DJ Sax package covers up to 5 hours of evening entertainment, with 3 x 30-minute live saxophone sets woven through the peak moments. The full evening is continuous — the live sax sits within it, not instead of it. Additional time can be added, including options for an earlier start or a later finish — earlier starts and later finishes are available — discuss your timings when enquiring.

What music styles does Richie play as a DJ?

Richie's DJ sets are rooted in house music and club classics — but he covers a wide range including disco house, nu disco, UK funky, speed garage, Afro house, Latin house, R&B, and soul. Every set is built around your preferences and your crowd. He'll discuss your musical taste before the event and shape the set accordingly.

Does Richie bring his own equipment for DJ Sax?

Yes. Richie performs on Pioneer DJ equipment and brings his own professional PA system and lighting as standard. He is fully self-contained. All you need to provide is a power supply and the performance space.

Why book DJ Sax instead of a separate DJ and saxophonist?

Booking Richie for DJ Sax means you deal with one person for everything. No coordinating between separate performers. No briefing two sets of requirements. No hoping they'll work well together on the night. Richie handles it all — and because he is both the DJ and the saxophonist, the performance is genuinely integrated rather than two acts running side by side.

Can I add a drinks reception solo sax set to a DJ Sax booking?

Yes. Richie can cover your drinks reception with a solo saxophone set before the DJ Sax evening performance begins. This is a popular option for weddings where you want live music throughout the whole day. Just mention this when enquiring.

Hypnotica

What is Hypnotica?

Hypnotica is Richie's premium DJ-led live act featuring himself on saxophone and Reed D'Rhythm on percussion. It's a full three-element performance — DJ, live saxophone, and live percussion — working together in real time. It's designed to create a genuine nightclub atmosphere: high energy, no dead spots, euphoric dancefloor. Think of it as the upgrade from DJ Sax to a full live act.

What kind of events is Hypnotica suited to?

Hypnotica works best at events where the entertainment is the centrepiece — luxury wedding receptions, high-end private parties, exclusive corporate galas, and destination events. If you want guests to remember the night for years, Hypnotica is designed for that. See the Why Book Hypnotica page for more detail.

How is Hypnotica different from DJ Sax?

DJ Sax is Richie performing as both DJ and saxophonist. Hypnotica adds Reed D'Rhythm on live percussion — making it a genuine three-element live act. The addition of percussion creates a bigger, more immersive performance with more energy peaks, more live interaction, and a stronger overall atmosphere. It feels less like a DJ set with saxophone and more like a live show.

How do I enquire about Hypnotica?

Use the Hypnotica Enquiry form or the general Contact page. Tell Richie about your event and he'll come back to you personally with availability and everything you need to know.

Session Musician

Is Richie available for studio recording?

Yes. Richie is available for both remote recording (he records from his professional home setup and delivers files in your preferred format) and in-person studio recording across London. Remote recording is ideal for producers and artists working across locations. In-person is preferred when real-time direction and multiple takes are important.

What styles does Richie play as a session musician?

Richie is a fundamentally jazz-trained musician but covers a wide range of styles as a session player — including jazz, R&B, funk, gospel, soul, house music, pop, and more. His versatility as a session musician is one of his key strengths. If you have a specific style or feel in mind, enquire with references and he'll let you know what's possible.

How do I book Richie for session work?

Use the Session Enquiry page or the general contact form. Include as much detail as possible about your project — style, key, tempo, references, and your timeline. The more context you give, the better Richie can prepare.
